Blogging Forum

I am looking to put a forum and blog on my site but want to look at cheaper off the shelf products rather than designing then for the site. Can you recomend a password protected site that can be branded (not totally) that would offer decent blog and forum capablity?

There are plenty of free software to run either or both.

Depending on what werverside code and database your hosting supports

Your first choice of ablogging software might be Wordpress which is included in almost any hosting plan, as for forums you'll have to look what your host offers, I personally like SMF, vBulletin is also quite popular.

wordpress provides both facility of blogging by cms and forum facility by installing bbpress.

Methinks forum may be comfortable to begin with as in case of blog involvment is greater and one needs more devotion for yielding good return. Forums too need caring as most of them have been found to face failure.

What is the requirement on the hosting you looking at? Password protected site you can do setting in there. But how many visitors you are looking at? What application you want to use, etc..

There are a lot of sites offer a platform to run both forums and blogs. I think open source , word press are important software available for this service.

For blogging software I recommend wordpress, go to wordpress . org and download the software.

For forums you can check these free scripts, make sure they are compatible with your hosting

i suggest you exBlogMix and bo-blog ,wordpress,i choose wordpress,and my website is steady.
for forum,the discuz is great choise and it is popular recently.

You can use the wordpress for your blog and install fprum with this plugin too;

Also you can set the sub-domain on your domain and install forum on it.
