I have two problems I need help with

1) A serious influx of complete trash comment posts are coming to my site. crap like http://2jfpsdfiiepfpioweopnfs etc etc. What is this junk, how can you help prevent it, and can you ban the IPs?

2) I had one of my sites completely disappear. None of my other sites were affected. I had to reinstall wordpress to be able to log in. It still had all of my themes and plugs which was unusual. but ALL of the posts are gone. and I never backed up. Where do i start

Edit the configuration file and tell it to use the original database.

Lesson: BACKUP!!!!! there are simple plugins to assist in doing automatic backups, and I try to remember to do a DB backup (complete) once a week through the control panel.

Also, install akismet plugin, this will filter most of the trash comments placed by bots.

You can also go to Settings -> Discussion and you can create your own blacklist of IP's or words, etc.

Goes without saying but keep those impossible to remember passwords with crazy characters, etc. for log in. Too many times I see people use admin(the default) and some simple word out of their website title. That makes a hacker's life easy.

Do install wp database auto backup or at least back up posts and pages, categories, etc by going to Tools -> Export and download an XML file.

You can't banned those IP but you can moderate your comments using askimet or other blog comments tool.

There are quite few plugins like akismet, spam karma, wp-spamfree which helps you prevent the frequent spamming in your blogs. And they usually maintain a database of the IP addresses, URLs and limitation of the URLs in the comment etc. and then trace out those comments from your moderation panel and throw them into the spam box.

But sometimes a few spammers pass out those too, then you need to ban those IP addresses manually to prevent further spamming.

On your first concern, you better you use Askimet (just what Christ have said before)

On your 2nd concern, sorry but I don't think there are ways to recover your lost post. Just learn your lesson from it; back up everything next time.
