I have a WP site I am still developing and as I am adding static pages I would like to have some pages that don't show in the nav menu or drop downs, but prefer to just link to it from certain product pages.

Is this possible, if so how?

Actually, no. Only primary and important pages like HOME, ABOUT US, CONTACT US, LINK TO US are some of the important pages that needed to appear in a navigation bar.

1. If you are able to edit your files you can specify which pages to exclude from the menu.

In this example case, pages with the id of 17 and 38 are excluded from the list. (You can also use the page name if permalinks are set)

wp_list_pages('exclude=17,38' )

More info about page lists at:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_pages

2. If this is a theme that you are working with, but you do not have the ability to edit php, etc. then you can check to see if the theme has a global options page and an option to select which pages are part of the menu.

3. Or you can try a plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/.

I've used that extended pages plugin before, it should do exactly what the OP is asking.

I actually made my theme with a program I purchased, I am checking the plugin, thanks!

Using #1 in Randy's post would probably be best, the navbar's likely located in your theme's header.php file, just search for the list in there.

Although it might be vastly easier to just code the pages in yourself, if you understand HTML, that is.

I've never needed to use a plugin for this task before, so I can't say how well it does.

Glad it worked out for you. If you do plan to "develop" more in Wordpress then I would take jamestl2 advice and learn to code things right into the template files. You will be able to do almost anything without a plugin after a while with wordpress.

There are some great plugins, but I always first try to do things hard-coded in my themes rather than depend on someone else hopefully updating their plugin on a regular basis. There is a ton of great resources besides the Codex for Wordpress out there. Search around.

Good luck!

On my wordpress themes I can completely hide the catagories. I don't but it can be done. I just play around with the widgets. You can then create links to other pages where you want them and there are plenty of plug ins for all kinds of task. Some may help you create your own list of pages..

I don't know that all themes will let you do this but my themes are very basic and allow me to. You can change, move, remove and ad quite a few features using widgets!!!

Thanks for the advice, this is my only site now and I do know very little about hard coding. The problem is I also work a full time job so being able to do something with the click of a mouse saves me a tremendous amount of time. However, if this site ever earns enough to quit my job, then I can see myself diving further into code but for now, I do try to make it easier because of time constraints.
