I've got a brand new blog with upcoming content that will very possibly make Slashdot, among other tech sites. So, the traffic is going to have a huge short-term boom, then rapidly fall off to something sane.
I'm concerned about two things:
1) I need to be sure the blogging provider (TypePad) won't throttle or cut me off. I picked TypePad based on a few large blogs being there that almost certainly get Slashdotted from time to time. Does anyone know how they handle huge short-term surges in traffic from a standard blog customer?
2) I'm trying to use ad revenue to fund the equipment for experimentation that the blog is basically about. I am going to have a single side banner style ad space, which should only contain Adsense-style ads (No popups, heavy animations, etc) How can I best maximize the ad income for this type of profile... an unknown blog with sudden, huge traffic then limited traffic (until the next cool development) ?
