Please tell me what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Drupal as a blogging platform instead of Wordpress.

Thank you.

there are not enough free drupal themes but there are a lot of free wp themes. drupal can be used as a social platform but wordpress is not suitable for it. wp's ping system is better than drupal's. wp is easy to use.

I think that both Drupal (and Joomla) for that matter are better at certain things. I wanted to start a niche article site and Drupal is perfect for that but there is a pretty steep learning curve whereas Wordpress is practically plug and play.

For a single blogger WP makes more sense if you must use one or the other.

Drupal might be a better choice if there are going to be a group of people contributing to the site. It has been some time since I played with it but I seem to recall a lot of of different potential groups, users and levels.

You might have one group of users that you trusted to post in real time and another that requires moderation before the post goes live. Some would be allowed to edit the work of others and some would not.

That's too basic to answer out of nowhere.

Both can do many things for many different purposes. It really comes down to what you want to do with the CMS and what type of site you want to develop.

Colby, WordPress can also handle multiple authors. There's a system of users and roles built in and there are some plugins that expand upon it. With the out of the box WordPress you can have admins, authors, contributors, etc. Some can publish a draft, but not publish the post. Some can publish their own posts, but not anyone else's. Some can publish and edit anyone's post.

Multiple authors can definitely be done in WP and rather easily too.

If you are building a straight on single person or group blog, I think Wordpress is the way to go. It has all the base functionality you need built in and a robust set of plug-ins if you need to add on. The admin interface is dead simple – anyone with basic computer knowledge can master it in a few minutes. The install of the software is also simple and the templating system is not difficult to master.

Thanks for the correction Van.

I don't care for either CMS so I only have one inactive WP site.

If you want to see it working in WP login into the backend and look through the links for adding and editing users. You'll see you have several roles out of the box. I think contributor can post a draft, but not publish, authors can post and publish their own content, and editors can post, publish, and edit anyone's content.

There are plugins available to add more roles and give you finer control over what each role can and can't do.

the advantages of Drupal are

- Is a CMS in the true sense of the word
- User profiles are extensible and very flexible
- The categorization of content is very innovative, although initially hard to understand
- It's great for generating dynamic web
- You can choose different templates for the control panel

While the benefits of Wordpress are:

- Easy to install, maintain and modify the code
- It is very easy to use
- There are thousands of templates and plugins for Wordpress because their community is very large. While Drupal does not have much modules.

customization is better in wordpress, it's more popular and support is better. Drupal isn't much known, I don't know if it's much customizable... plug-in wise.

Wordpress is more SEO friendly IMHO. Drupal is has a steep learning curve and most of the plug ins are lacking.
