Yes, Blog spot is best as since its the Google Own product and so Google will definitely give importance to it.

Apart from blogspot, you have Type pad and Instablogs, Wordpress, Tumblr and also the list given by chrish is more good enough..

I am a Wordpress user. I use Thesis for the theme, and host with Godaddy. Simple, functional, and I rarely have to edit code.
