Is it possible to self-host videos on wordpress? If so, then how is it done.

I do not want to upload all of my videos to youtube and then imbed them. I would like to be able to have them hosted on my site, that way if people choose to embed them on their site - it would be beneficial to me.

Cheers

Well.. your web hosting company must support something called FFMPEG. FFMPEG hosting allows you to have your own video sharing site or more familiarly called as a "YouTube clone".

Your web hosting company must have the following features in their server
  • MEncoder, MPlayer, FFMPEG, FFMPEG-PHP
  • PHP4 & PHP5
  • LAME MP3 Encoder
  • libOGG, libVorbis
  • MySQL 5
  • CGI-BIN support

In order to host and upload videos you need some scripts any one of the following will do
  • PHPMotion
  • Clipshare
  • Vshare
  • ClipBucket
  • AlstraSoft VideoShare
  • Attachmax
  • Rayzz
  • OsTube

Upload videos and embedd them to your post.

Actually you don't need any of that at all!!!
That is needed if you are CONVERTING video formats on the site.

you simply need FTP to upload them to your site and code to embed videos in the page

Only if you are using free or the cheapest host you can.

And if you have any sense at all and hosting a lot of videos you will be paying for proper hosting.

For example GoDaddy does not allow you FFMPEG streaming for more than 5 (i believe) videos.

Unless you are trying to keep the videos for a protected area (membership etc...) why would you want to host them on your site? Hosting on YouTube is great, easy, and they show on searches FAST! I host mine all over, but not on my site!
