when I commented several posts on mashable - I got about 50 visits a day to my website and even a couple sales...
but I am sure that if I could submit a guestpost there - it would be massive!

I think incontent in blog post is better.

I opinion is that blog commenting is wastage of time and blog writing is good.

Blog writing makes money and traffic for you.
but blog commenting only make traffic for your blog.

Of course blog posting is far better than blog commenting. As some members said, commenting maybe be marked as spam but if you write unique quality content and post them to your blog or others blogs, it very good.

Do not comment just to get traffic and link juice. Treat it as a way to network with other bloggers too. Appreciate or criticize the author. But, be honest. Do not make your comment just to suck some traffic from them.

You need to write consistently and regularly on your website or blog because you need to make the search engines know that you are giving some thing valuable to their users.

Blog writing is good for the long term, but blog commenting is good for immediate traffic, and ofcourse with blog commenting you don't have to write so much

Blog posting in always best way to keep getting more visitors on your website.

Commenting on a dofollow related blog is a good way to promote a site, you don't just comment but you post wisely to the on going discussion

This was funny. You didn't get any benefits because you're comments were all filtered out my friend. For them, you have a reputation of a spammer. Next time you comment on blog posts, stay focus on the topic alone. And also, make a remarkable response. Not just an ordinary "Thank you", etc. Reply with quality or give some information too about the entry.

It all depends on what kind of website you are using for comments. Your comments should be on your niche websites.

Blog commenting isn't useless at all for you are having a backlink with is relevant to your site. But you can get more benefits in blog posting so better put more time in updating your blog rather than commenting on others blog.
