I don't use an SEO plugin. I use Thesis theme from DIYThemes.com/thesis. The theme itself is already so SEO friendly, that there is no need for All-in-One SEO Pack. The Thesis theme modifies all of the admin screens and exposes everything you would ever want to set from an SEO perspective.
The Add/Edit Post/Page screens have both been modified, for example, to prompt the user for <title>, meta keywords, meta description. When you save the post/page, it writes those values you entered to a custom field named something like thesis_title, etc. And the Theme is smart enough to look for this first. If it has a value then it displays it. If not, then it uses the post/page title.
I can set whether I want category, archive, and tags pages to render a <meta name="robots" content="noindex">. I index the categories and block the archive and tags from being indexed to eliminate duplicate content.
The theme supports custom excerpts to prevent content from your post from being displayed on the home page, archive, category, tags pages... You can have a unique teaser that is not a duplicate of the first XXX words of your post.
Most theme developers suck and never think to include SEO features like this in their theme. You shouldn't "need" to use an SEO plugin if your have a quality theme. Unfortunately, many people don't want to pay to get the better designed/implemented themes, so there will always be a market for the plugins.
Of all of the SEO plugins, All-in-One SEO Pack is by far the best IMO. So if you have to use one, it's the one that I would choose.
