Is there a menu pluton available for word press that allows a menu to appear on the far left of the screen when it is hovered over?

What theme are you using? Most themes now have this ability built in with the new Menu system in WordPress.

If you try using the TwentyTen default theme and build your menus in the Dashboard with sub-menus included, you can see that this actually works.

A lot of other themes/frameworks use SuperFish menu javascript built into them, which make for nicer looking drop-downs.

You mean full-screen and the manu on the left? If so, you need to either change your theme or find ways to edit your theme, but generally speaking, a suitable theme will be better.
