Am new here and am asking : can google adsense work on wordpress or any other free blogging site?
what else can replace adsense?

Not on free ones but get a hosting account and use free Wordpress offered there and then you can use adsense and other advertisers.

But it is allowed in blogger.com. SO better rely on blogspot than Wordpress.

google quickly apporve blogger account, but it should be quality blog and should have good traffic on that blog.

Yes.. Blogger is best blogging platform to use Adsense. It is good and simple too. I am using blogspot with custom domain and have good success with it.

Yes that's true and if you know html and css you can too place adsense in tumblr
