photo blogs work extremely well for certain niches and sometimes are the only good option for a blog (for artists, photographers, designers etc).
remember that promoting your vlogs or photo blogs requires a few extra skills/techniques than regular blog content promotion (though I guess if you have a nice blog it has videos and images too). so look into universal search optimization techniques (link to a guide with tips) for your photo blog so that your videos show up in universal search SERP's:
