I am wondering if the comment system in a blog is turn off entirely, will it affect the traffic of the said blog?

It might because you'll get less spammers.

Except spammers it might affect some other people visiting blogs in hope to leave traces, and have discussions.... Fortunately these are only few people.

Yeah. But I suggest you to just moderate your comments. In that way, you can classify those good comments in your blog and approve those.

I agree. premoderation gives wider possibilities than a cut.

I'd rather moderate comments as well. Blogging is a bit like social networking. And if you cut off commenting your blog posts you lose an opportunity to communicate to other bloggers like yourself.

It will actually, since on a personal note, I definitely would get turned off when I've just finished reading a blog post only to find out in the end that I wouldn't be able to leave a feedback of my own.

Plus, comments come from your readers, which translate to unique and free content. If that doesn't spell good for SEO(then organic traffic) then I don't know what will.
