Thought I'd try to point out some of the benefits of setting up a blog with WordPress.
1. It's free: If you're looking for an inexpensive way to get a site online then you can't beat free. I can't speak for all blogs, but with WordPress you can set up static pages so you don't have to just blog. You can really create a full site with it and there are many, many themes you can use if you don't care for the default look.
2. Extremely easy install: It really does take only about 5 minutes like they claim. You need to upload the files and set up a database through your host. Then go to the url for the blog and you're pretty much done.
3. SEO: Wordpress has been coded to be seo friendly. A lot friendlier than most sites in general that I see online. You can easily set it up so the urls make use of your keyword rich title instead of all the dynamic parameters.
4. More SEO: Just having a blog is good for getting found in search engines. More pages = good. Writing focused posts kind of optimizes itself. Case in point. On my own blog without doing anything special many of my posts are found daily in Google. Other than trying to write a good title and keep the page focused on one thing I didn't do any other seo. The pages don't get found a lot, but when you add up the pages it does bring a decent amount of traffic and as I write more pages the search visitors will just keep coming.
5. Even more SEO: The more you write on the same topic over and over and assuming you're writing quality posts, the more other sites will naturally begin to link to you and further increasing your search engine presence. It also set you and your site up as an authority both with search engines and with potential customers and clients and anyone else you want to impress.
6. It's easy: You don't need to know any html or css or any other language to set up, manage, or add new pages or posts to your blog. It's basically a rather simple content management system that works very well.
7. It's really easy: Even if you don't know any html, css, or php you can find many plugins to add to it's functionality. Trust me if you can imagine something to add to WordPress someone else had probably alredy beat you too it and coded it for you. And installing new plugins (and themes by the way) is even easier than installing it in the first place. It's usually upload one file and then click a button to turn it on.
8. Yep really easy: Need it to be even easier? There's a codex for it that's one of the most inclusive help files I've ever seen. Tells you how to do just about anything you might want to do with WordPress. it also has a search feature that will lead you to WordPress forums for even more answers. Oh and one of the plugins allows you to search directly from the admin interface so you don't even need to go to the codex.
9. It's just plain fun: Even if you're not looking to impove your search engine position or win friends and influence neighbors it's still pretty cool to know you have a voice online and people you'll never meet are being influenced by what you have to say. There's even a wow feature with version 2.0. They use AJAX to delete posts. Not really necessary, but is faster than having to reload the page and it's just cool.
