Let me know guys, if it is difficult to promote blog. How does the blog's promotion differes from a regular informational site's promotion?

I wouldn't say that there's a lot of difference since you can submit to directories and also use link building as a mean to promote your website.

Digg.com is a great way to promote your blog.

Blog got RSS2 feed built it features that auto feed your post and the auto ping function that is very useful in promoting it automatically.

Quality and unique content. That's the sole thing that you need to have a popular website.

Well, you can promote by pinging, backlinking etc etc. But, the ultimate way is to write quality content.

If talking about content, you can be as unique as possible and sprinkle some humor to your posts. People really love humor than serious docs. I love it myself. Thats why I love copyblogger and all.

Ask people to review it on forums... If you have good content they'll come back. Tell all your friends about it, use the URL for your MSN user name, get a domain (easier for people to remember).

every single promotion method already been describe, but the more important is how you practice all the method..make sure you take all the necessary action, you also can make an experiment from all method and choose which one will suit you site better.

You have to involved on more forums that allow a link; co`z links are key for your blogs, then as they had suggested ping to all sites.

Have an attractive and interesting keywords towards an informative blog for a better help.

Think of different ways outside of the internet to promote your blog. For example:

If your blog is about cars then make some bumper stickers for your car or the magnetic signs you can put on the sides of your car.

If your site is about Beer, make some t-shirts and wear them to your favorite bars and give some away.

Make business cards and pass them out.

If your blog is about fashion make some flyers and put them up on the bulletin board of your local laundromat, or see if your favorite dry cleaner will let you put a flyer or business card on the hangers.

This is a very good question. It is definatley the quality content, however, like in all economic aspects of social organization, it is also the demand for certain content. If you are going to publish a site, and you have dreams of broad readership, then go ahead and write about something that is in demand. Otherwise, stick to a niche. This is the harder route to take. However, always make sure that what you write interests you, and go off and do that correctly so that the reader does not have a hard time.

In addition to the aforementioned methods of promoting a blog, consider joining blog sites such as http://www.technorati.com/ , it will help other bloggers and blog readers find your website.
Also exchange blogroll links with as many bloggers as possible.

I agree with all the steps you lay out giga girl. Directories are not that powerful any more but all the others are pretty powerful, especially bookmarking your article at diggs and other social bookmarking sites

in my observation, its almost the same way you promote blogs and the so called informational site. blogs and websites are the same.

You are right to some extent, blogs and websites are the same but also different. Just one or two differences I can think off:
i. Every blogs I have ever come across has RSS feeds. (meaning you can promote blogs using RSS feeds). Most websites do not have RSS feeds facility.
ii. Blogs have a visitor comment and some elements of web 2.0. Most websites do not have this....

... and quite a few other subtle differences.
