Hi, just when I thought I could get started on my blog running WP 2.0.7, the news today is WordPress 2.1 is out and so...is it better for us WordPress users to upgrade now or wait a little later?

I think WP 2.1 rocks from just reading the features alone....and they are saying the next major version will be out even before you can blow your horn...April 23!

How will the plugins or themes keep up? This is a really fast development pace.

Well, the website says that it is "stable" and not another BETA. But, I think upgrading may not be that wise a decision. I'm on 2.0.5. I need to upgrade to 2.0.7 really soon. A lot of hack attacks you know.

I think many plugins and themes will not work if we upgrade to WordPress 2.1. Unless the devs modify their plugins and themes soon, there may not be many plugins/themes to choose from that can be used in WP 2.1, and the coming update 3 mths later.

It seems to be quite a major change from 2.0.x but the great thing about it is it can be made into a CMS easier now as the WP guys said its easier to incorporate static pages now. That in itself is a big enough reason IMO to upgrade...

I wish they've included a feature to change the permalinks easily. But, I think I'm stuck with " http://www.sitename.com/?p=<numbers> " permalink structure.

My site has PR4. If I change the permalink structure, it would be utter foolishness but I wish my URLs where a little more SEO friendly.

im just lazy to update my wordpress blog..maybe after i got a time to setting back my blog i'll reconsider to upgrade it.

However, it seems wordpress 2.1.1 has just been released with more stablity and security fixes. Usually the first minor update after a major update is the best time to upgrade. So this would be the time.

But, Adam, I've earned a lot of links to my posts from other blogs. What would happen if I changed the permalink structure ?! I would lose all those links and thereby, traffic.

And, even if I update the permalink structure and let the present structure be there temporarily, I would get my *** kicked by Google for duplicate content. A very sticky situation. I wish I had done it when I started the blog.

I didn't do anything. I'm just staying put. Thats what I meant. I took the Red Pill. Now there's no going back for me. The permalinks can't be changed. I can't take such a risk.
