If you use FeedBurner you may seen the "publisher Buzz" on the main page or on this link http://blogs.feedburner.com/buzz. Basically they highlight publishers that are using their service. I've always wondered how they chose them and if I'd ever get chosen.
My curiosity got the better of me so recently I submitted my blog link and highlighted two of my popular entries. I didn't think it would ever get chosen because my blog isn't a cool subject (gardening) but I must have been having a lucky day because on 3/29/07 they put me on the homepage and received a number of hits and picked up a few subscribers.
You can see the permalink here.
I think what helped me was that when I submitted my "buzz" instead of just sending an e-mail with a couple of links and saying "please highlight me" I studied the copy they used for previous entries and worded my submittal accordingly. The copy at the link above is almost exactly as I submitted it, they altered the first few words (for the better) in the first sentence. But the rest of it is just about the same.
The other thing I think may have helped is the mention of the city I'm blogging from. I read that they have offices here so when I wrote the copy I added it in there hoping it would grab the attention of the editor who must look at tons of requests.
I guess the moral of the story here is that when you're part of a group or using a service that highlights users/members don't be afraid of putting yourself out there even if you think your blog isn't the coolest. Try to make it easy for any editors and see if you can find a way to make yourself stand out. I'm glad I went with FeedBurner when I was looking for something to give me simple site stats. I've gotten a cool service for free and some publicity.
