Well, as most of you know, putting Adsense ads on the start of a post has a great advantage in terms of CTR. But, one of the problems which always keeps me away from such a practice is that, when we post Adsense over post, the post looks broken from the title.

I think it would be understood more clearly by examining these two screenshot of a typical post from my blog and another from Steve Pavlina's Blog.

How can I do this in Wordpress 2.1 ?

There's your answer. But to be honest, it looks like crap the way Steve Pavlina did it.

Neither. It just looks neater flushed to the right with the text wrapping around it.

Adam, you mean the way Darren does it ? I don't like it. Because I rarely notice it. So, doesn't that mean low CTR ?

It will likely mean low CTR either way. I came up with a way to make a left-floated GAS block look a little neater (hint: you have to justify your text), but even then the conversion hasn't changed.

Can you put that in layman's terms ? I mean, a good example or CSS code would be enough. Anyway, I think putting adsense on top of each posts gets good CTR. I'm trying to calculate how much it would work for my site.

Can you explain why adsense at the top of a blog gets more people to click the ads? I mean beyond "it's the first thing they see?" Think of someone who might click one of your ads, and think why putting them somewhere else ( even dead center ) would stop that person? I think only people who got to your page by accident, and they'd probably hit back anyway.

Can you get more traffic? Hopefully that's growing over time? I think having more people look at your site will get you more payola than doing stuff designed to up the % a little.

How can I do this in Wordpress 2.1 ?

why don't you put your adsense horizontal instead of vertical. so it means you just put on the top of your articles. I also do this and get for about 0.5% CTR. not bad right?

Well I don't know the theory about this but its a proven fact that 300 X 250 Ads in the beginning of the post works well. It worked for Amit Agarwal, John TP, Darren Rowse and many other achievers.

Personally, I've not done a research on this since the no.of clicks and impressions I get are too low for starting a research. But, I'm doing one right now even if the results are getting too long to generate. But, I'm being persistent.
