As a blog reader, do you prefer to read several long post on the front page of a blog or excerpts from many post?

Right now I'm showing full post on my front page. I'd like to just offer a excerpt of about 10 post.

I'll keep the RSS feeds as full post either way.

Thanks

As long as I can see the title of the entry and perhaps a couple of lines of text I'm happy.

With my blog which I recently redesigned I have made the most recent post stand out at the top of the index page. Ive done this so when the user visits my blog something catches their eye straight away and it will hopefully draw them in to carry on reading. Doing this also gives me a nice little place for my recent comments and sponsors block.

I like to see a few, maybe 4 or 5 posts with snippets. I might be looking for something else also, I hate trying to search Blogs....most searches are completely inadequete. So If I don't find it on the page I am on and they don't have categories...I move on.

Peace

Hi,

I originally had snippets, but the amount of content was so small, that it hurt my rankings on Google. It appears that Google favors content, so what I began to do was to write terse but relevant content. This seems to be the best for me and my readers. But I still haven't found the sweet spot yet so I continue to refine the content and how I present it.

Rich

I used to show entire posts, but people complained it was too long (the page). I offer a small preview and the "read more" link .. I have to say the blog looks better

It's definitely easier for the user to navigate the home page and choose an entry when there are only snippets there with a read more link. The page gets really long otherwise and it takes longer to load.

Snippets. If I'm interested, I'll read more. If not, thank you, I'll drive through.

Snippets annoy me. It's an unnecessary click and page load. It's like when you read a story on the front page of the paper and it's continued on page A-28. Unless the story is dang good, I won't continue on.

If you go for snippets, make sure that it is obvious to the sub-Joe Bloggs sort of visitors - e.g. a link saying "click here to read more" rather than just a ........ or "continued" link - make the navigation very easy and you'll get returning visitors
