Warning - about linking

Many of you might have seen thousands of websites getting penalties over the past couple of weeks. Obviously, another algo tweak is at work, this time targeting the famouse link exchange.

I have been buying links for a while - as an advertisement and to improve search results (busted), and I would like to warn all the webmasters who sell links, and everybody else for that matter.

Selling links to bad websites will get you out of the search results, and by "bad" I dont mean gambling, or adult, but those who have penalties by Google. And if you are out of the SERPs - next month you will not have single customer or advertiser.

Here is how you could find if a website has a penalty:

1. Simply type the whole URL (http://www.yoursite.com) into Google. If:
a). "Sorry, no information is available for the URL" is displayed - the website is banned.
b.) Just the URL is displayed, with no description and no cache (links, similar, and contain the term are still showing) - the website is banned.

Linking to that website, through a link exchange or selling ad space to it, will get you banned, 100%.

Also, If the above prooves to be O.K., you should still check to see if a penalty will be impossed on that website in the near future.
This is how you do this:
1. Type just the domain name in Google (yoursite.com), and if just the URL is displayed, with no description and no cache (links, similar, and contain the term are still showing) - the websites is about to be banned.

Also, for those who plan on buying ad space - do the same research about the website selling you the space. If the website is banned, you will not get banned if you just buy ad space (providing you don't link back), but Google will not count those links and you will just throw your money away.

And the most important thing - do not get confused by the PR, a website might have PR8 and still be banned - it just has not been reflected on the toolbar.

I think it was about time for Google to cean itself up a little, and on the other side - the rediculos prices for ad space (gouged by the "PR re-selling) will finally go down, and we could get some traffic on more normal prices.

Anyhow, all this has been verified and I have tons of URLs to prove it. Just take my advice and do your research.

Peace and top 10 ranking to all

I agree with you on everything except this little part. Prices won't go down, the only way I see it is that they'll go up and it will be harder to find sites with high PR willing to sell links due to all of this. The PR from sites with relatively high PR (7,8) will drop if linking to bad/banned websites. Therefor making PR more scarce and harder to come by. But overall good points made.

This doesn't mean your banned.. They just might have not got around to indexing your site...Or like mine the site doesn't have no content

Of course, but I was talking about developed websites, plus with the speed Google indexes new pages nowadays, this is not an issue anymore.

However, site with no content is just like a banned website - it has no value and it won't show on any SERPs.

Could you please show me a site banned due link selling?. I know few sites not passing PR possible due to link selling, but banned? As exmple a site with high possition in Yahoo, but can not seen in Google. Other thing, if site is banned can you expect PR value in tool bar?

I know google do everything to prevent link selling, even link exchange, but it is not easy. I have seen site linke linkadage.com PR was down to 5 from 6 or7. But similar link selling facilitate site increase PR, easytool.org from 4 to 5.

Yahoo has always been very tolerant towards spammers and very slow on banning them from their search resluts.

I dont think it would be fair to post particular URLs, however you could do a research for yourself before you buy links on a website. Just follow what I have posted above.

Yes, it is not fair to post banned urls here. Please PM any URL BANNED due to link selling, I still belive Google do not banne them, but block PR passing.

More, I think still no evidence to show linking to 'bad site' or link selling site affect you position or PR. (AS MENTION IN THIS THREAD) People assume lots but no body know!

I posted a longer version of this but decided to change it.

Just read up on what will get you banned and then don't do it, or at least don't let anyone know you are doing it.

I agree to what you say. Links are important, but think of them like banner ads also that can send traffic. So try and buy prominent link and not burried in 100 links.

I wish Google will put a stop to reciprocal linking and make a national announcement that "one way linking" is the correct way to do SEO for it's search engine.

What will happened?

The domain name industry will blossom once again! Yaaahoooooo!

People like you and I will be buying more domain names so we can all do one way linking. A to C.....B to A

Need help visualizing it? Go: http://www.finesearch.com/advertising.php

What else will happened?

There will be maximum carnage to get as many one way links as they can get their hands on. Afterall, if this Google explanation is correct
http://www.google.com/technology/, only the websites with the most one way links will survived and profit from all of the free traffic in the top 10 positions.

Part-time online marketers will inevitably loose to big companies who can afford to hire expensive SEO gurus or a full-time staff to seek our one way links.

Finally, relevancy will be determined by the highest number of theme specific one way links and a deep advertising budget. The Internet will no longer be considered an area where the little guys can compete with the big guys. I guess we'll have to go back to banner advertising again.

I only play Larry Page on T.V.

In real life, I'm actually a janitor for the Internet.

People come to me and cried about how they broke the legs of their website and can NOT walk to visit their rich Uncle Google.

I have to perform an SEO bypass combined with a little nip n tuck here and there to make their website live AGAIN!!!
