Hello everyone ,
Recently I saw some beginners thrashing on other's threads so I thought I should give some information about text links to beginners.

--- Why does ppl purchase text links ?
People purchase text links to boost their Search Engine Rankings.

--- Should I purchase text links to boost my website traffic ?
I don't believe so. Actually the answer is yes the aim is not "receiving uniques" from the text link on other website. It's boosting your SE Rankings and then receiving traffic from Search engines.

--- Do I have to be careful when I'm purchasing text links ?
Yes , while you're purchasing text link from another website you should pay attention to :
PageRank of the site ,
Outbound links on the site ,
And also the text of the link you purchase.

--- What's the importance of my link's text ?
Actually it's called Anchor text. As I mentioned before backlinks help you bring the search engine robots, spiders to your website. And when it comes to your website through a link it records the text of the link. For example Shopping Mall SE's keep that Shopping Mall text and if your site is optimized well also you'll get better rankings in the SE's with the Shopping Mall text.

So, basically the unique visitors of a website ,where you purchase a text link from, is actually not important. (Unless website owner is offering you the spot on a important part of his website / a place where others will see your link - I mean unless the website owner is offering you the link to boost your SE rankings / PR links , the importance of uniques is not important , as mentioned before, because you're purchasing text links with anchor text to boost your rankings.

EDIT :

I didn't know that posting links to SEO related websites/communities was not allowed . Ok then ask here

Be careful while purchasing links and posting comments on other's threads.

I posted this info according to my knowledge. Of course I got more knowledge however I just wanted to tell the basic steps while buying links and especially while posting comments on others' sales. Please be nice and respect others work. Don't make silly/childish posts on others threads and keep this WM-T community as a better place.

(mods please keep this thread open)

I posted this in another thread but I would like to get some more opinions...plus it is good to keep useful information together

Is it better to offer direct link text ads with no tracking or redirecting text ads that will offer the advertiser the ability to track hits?

Yup that's the point but It didn't come up to my mind actually.
ppl should offer text links in 3 ways IMO :
1 : Direct PR Links - For Better Ranknings
2 : Indirect Links for traffic - With tracking urls and indirect like : affiliate.php?advertiser=id kinda
3 : Both Traffic and PR links - I believe these would have more value as you'll be offering both visitors and PR to advertiser. These links should be direct and placed on a part of your website which can be seen easily so that your advertiser will gain traffic also.

just my 2 cents...

Offering both may be difficult depending on the site layout, but it does sound like a good idea. Have static direct links for PR and cycling text ads closer to the top of the page for ads with the tracking. Thanks for the information.

Another question if you do not mind. For PR links, is there some type of pricing guidline? For example how much should a PR6 page be worth?

As I see there is no pricing guidline, as most of the thing in the net, but price depend on several factors......and anyway price is going down now (no more PR6 for 60$) as link selling is common and even you can find 'good' PR6 link for 30$ now

As 2003m2003 mentioned there is no pricing guidline.
Actually you charge whatever you want because it's yours. I've saw someone here at WM-T selling a text link for $400-600 while other ppl are selling the same thing for $10-15 . It's up to you
Let me tell you the factors :
Your site's importance (relevancy etc.)
Outbound and incoming links
PR
Content...
These are really important but average cost of a PR6 is from $10 to $40 depending on outbound links actually.
For example I sell for $10
