I am using Google Adsense to advertise, and am getting a lousy $1 per thousand impressions.

Should I drop Google and put up banners from CJ.com? Or is $1 per thousand the industry average?

We are averaging 4.50 cpm but we are in a different market.

What I would do is, stay with google for now, but look up the most expensive keywords in google that relate to your site. Then go thru the copy on your site, and make sure there are plenty of occurances of those words in your site without making the wording sound odd.

You can open a adwords account if you dont have one already and see what words are the best to use, for instance, the most expensive ones, will show a low page position if you put in a low bid.

Hope this helps

I'd say if you're changing the keywords for more expensive ones, it's more difficult to get a good ranking in search engines, so it's not given that it's the right choice.
