Don't come here for a couple months and I miss a totally weird thread.

$400 a month is high? LOL. I've gotten $200 for a 24 hour ROS banner ad, and the footer links go for $600 these days. I swear, most webmasters think it's high just because they have no money to begin with. Real companies (the kind that make money) don't bat an eye at spending a couple thousand. $400 a month is like, nothing.

And, I can charge that much because the site gets a lot of traffic. Not because it's PR7. Traffic, not PR.

OnlyPHP - yo charge that much for gambling related websites, and still, I would think about it. I would understand if yo had over 10,000 pages with PR4 or higher - than $400 is worth paying, but right now there are plenty of webmasters charging $10-$20 a month for a text link on websites with more than 10,000 indexed pages, so you are not very competitive.

Guys, John is dead on. To companies that actually make $$$, $400 a month is nothing - I repeat NOTHING. I provide technology and advertising services to companies that would wonder what was wrong with me (and my service) if I charged them as little as $400.

I've bought links from a few people here for cheap & I got what I paid for - Nothing. The links I bought don't show as links pointing to my site, and I've never received 1 single visitor from any link I've bought here. I get more traffic from posting here than I do from any links I've bought here.

I this forum John's post may seem a little out of context because everyone here seems to give links away ($2/month is "giving it away"). In the "real" world of business though $400 is more than reasonable.

LOL. 10,000 pages with PR4? I got 133,000 pages with up to PR7. I got lousy forum threads with PR5.

I'm not saying that $400 per month is a bad deal but I always shop around first.

If you need 30,000 links to come up first on Google searches you might consider buying it for a year. (the first month you will likely only see the index page and pages directly linked from the index page be indexed. If you are competing with big sites like Yahoo you might buy an ad package like this.

Hell my sites only need 50-100 links to show up first for their given keywords and make money.

To coment on for said, no-one here said anything about selling PageRank. Google states pretty clearly on there website that noone can purchase a higher ranking within the search results. IE you can't buy and sell PageRank.

People use google PageRank to gauge the importance of a website. Google is one of the more non-bias meta search engines and it accounts for something like 30% of all the search market. Noone in this forum is selling PageRank. A site that ranks well on google usually has alot of visitors just by virtue of the sites link popularity and direct click-thrus. Since only 3-30% of the inbound links to a given site ever get scored by Google and count toward the PageRank of a given site(in my experience) A site that advertises on another site that is PR6 is not going to have a major boost in search engine rankings. The obvious benifits of having ad space on a well ranked site is the number of direct click-thrus you will get.

I other words the only people that are worried about getting PR banned are the people who are selling text links with the intent of manipulating Google search results and are affraid they will be found out.

If you advertise on a site that has PR your site's rankings will go up. It's not really simple math but that's the way that it works.

So should I just advertise on PR SH*T sites that don't get alot of visitors because I'm affraid the Google boogie man is going to take away my rankings???? H*LL NO.

People buy a link on PR9 site for $4500/month and their search engine results don't go up because that site got banned that month. People that think they have the easy out and they won't have to do any work to attain the ranking they need to dominate a search terms. You tried to cheat and you are out the money. THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT BEING BANNED. You've heard the term cheaters never prosper. It isn't always true. These people are selling ad space not PageRank, don't get the two confused.

I'm going to advertise on the best sites that I can afford.

PageRank is a major selling point when you are offering text link advertisement. Everybody asks "what is the PageRank of your site?". You can't escape it.

People who worry about things like that are usually the people who are doing the cheating.
