Hi all, I am new to the forum, and i would like to know if i write a script, how do i copy right it. So no one uses the script without asking me or consent from me. Is there a way to embed owners details without the script itself

Regards

to all

You could put a copy right notice at the top in the form of comments (In PHP scripts)...

Code:
/* This is copyrighted to me
Do not copy */
Hope this helps

That's basically what you need to do. There is an official copyright office where you can get a legal document, but for most people it's a waste of time and money. Any work that you create is automatically copyright by you.

thanks for the replies but if i place a copyright in the scritp what stops people taking it out, also if i create a script just creating a script does not automatically make it mine, as any one can create the same script. I have heard oif scripts that have hidden copyrights placed in them, anyone know of such processes.

Just relying on the fact that some one wont take out your copy right signature in your script is not enough.

Any help would be great

cheers

That's the thing, you can't guarantee someone isn't going to take your copyright off. If they do, then you have the law on your side as long as you can prove that your the one who actually did make it. If you don't want to take the chance, then sorry bud but you can't release it publicly.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created.

One way of easily proving work is yours that i have heard is...

If you saved your work to disc and printed out the source code and then posted it to yourself and kept it sealed... That way the envelope will have been stamped with the date and could help you prove the work is yours...

I dont know if this is true...But just a suggestion

I used to think that as well, but I read it was just a myth somewhere. Something about post-office not doing something or other...
