Hey,

Been looking to VB and have made a start, basic programs like calculator etc. I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition for all my needs.

My question is, 6.0 or .Net? I understand that .Net is a framework and that it's meant to have advantages but when I look up tutorials i really don't know if it's 6.0 or .Net. With the package im using (express edition) does this mean that everything i write has to be in 6.0 or for the .Net? Because some of the tutorials ive looked up, the code just hasnt worked.

If someone could run through it for me and point me in the right direction id be grateful.

Thanks

Well first off the code you find on websites dont always work as Ive found out the hardway quite a few times.

But about 6.0 vs VB.net there is a definite difference, and most stuff now-adays that you find on the net is .NET. Even a couple years back when I was doing 6.0 for school it was hard finding tutorials and examples, although I still like 6.0 for its simplicity.

There's no real reason to pick up VB 6 unless you want to do "maintenance programming."

Visual Studio 2005 Express is .net 2.0, so while it generally allows backward compatibility for vb, you want .net code examples when you have a choice.
