And of course the two that Moxxnixx linked to are both components that will need installing on the server, and unless you own the server, that probably won't happen.

I wrote my own URL rewriting system using the 404 page, which again, if you haven't got control over the server may not be possible.

oops! i thought it was unnecessary to crate a separate thread, anyway thank you.

and yes, those tools require control over server so not suitable where i want to apply.

Sorry, I didn't think about that. I'm a server admin.
I haven't heard of any other way to do what you ask.

Actually, you don't necessarily need control over the server as such. What you need is for someone to be able and willing to add/configure what you want to the server.

I'd suggest the custom 404 route would be the better way to go if you don't have a dedicated server since 1) it takes 2 minutes to configure and 2) they don't pose potential issues that installation of custom third-party components on servers do. As a result, hosts tend to be more receptive to custom 404 pages.

So my answer, as trite as this seems, is "ask your host".

And if you have control panel access, Plesk or similar, you may even be able to make the change yourself.

I've worked with people who used ISAPI Rewrite in the past. They say it's a viable solution.
