I have a song I wish to play as background music on a webpage.
This Song is in wav format. The specs are as follows;
Wav Format: PCM
Frequency: 6000
Mono
16 bit
Compression Ratio 1:1(100%)

File Size: 722kb

The file size is the problem. With dial-up modem it would
take FOREVER for it to load.

I know that midi format is a smaller file and a less quality
sound format, but how can I compress this file any
further???

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 software.

Well, assuming that you don't want the user to be prompted with how they want to play the song through media player then I would compress it into mp3 and create a flash file that will play the song. You could make the flash file the controls to stop, pause etc.

Definitely compress it either as an MP3 or better yet a WMA file.
