I was thinking of creating a custom blog rather than using a third party blogging app. I'm not sure if this is the most efficient way to go though.

Basically, just wanted to know people's experiences on their own coded blogs, i'm assuming with asp.net, javascript and/or html+css, and getting just an online blog from blog spot or wordpress, etc.

I was also considering implementing a rss to the page for updates.

Any ideas/ feedback would help a lot.

I find it's been a good learning experience. I've learned enough doing that to be able to do most other things I've tried so far. However, it's definitely not the most time efficient way of doing things. It all depends on what your needs are.

You've got nothing to loose i mean its gono be learning experience that you gono carry with you . I plan on doing the same thing actually to have more control over everything

Take a look at Apache Sling. It has a REST API to access the data and for a simple blog, you can build pages using server side javascript.
