I have just seen another web site and the links down the bottom right (about CCJ's) seem to change randomly when the page is refreshed or revisited.

Do they do this with some server side stuff to randomly pick a set number of links from a list and display them or something?

Yep ...

Links are in a database, they select random records to display.

If they are in a database would this be done using a CMS like Joomla ?

Using a database such as MySQL one or Oracle.

I'm still reading up on it but from what I have read its a content mamanagement system - it handles the content on the pages and page layout via a database.

Personally, this type of script is so simple, I would rather just code it. Do a search for rotating content php for some helpful stuff.

It's easily accomplished, and wouldn't require too much work. Using a CMS for such a simple task would be overkill .

Will have to find someone who can program php then obviously -
