I've resisted installing Firefox 3 so far as my main browser, but now my automatic update is asking me if I would like to upgrade. I realize that the differences between 2 and 3 in the way they display web pages is probably minimal, but I'm curious to know if anyone is planning on staying on 2 (for whatever reason) or if they plan on testing their site in both 2 and 3 or just 3.

With the coming Internet Explorer 8 in November, we'll soon have to develop for IE 6, 7, 8, Opera, Safari and then Firefox. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Check out Yahoo's A-grade browser list: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/articles/gbs/
As you can see they still support FF2, but have limited its support to XP and the newest Mac system, while FF3 enjoys the wides support, across all supported systems. I think this is a good general guide for what we should support. Not that we need to be as scientific as Yahoo is, but FF2 support should be less of a focus, and eventually will be dropped. Fortunately Firefox users are quick to upgrade, and the new browser works well even on slower computers.

I do dread the prospect of potentially supporting THREE Explorer browsers, two Firefox browsers, plus the others. I genuinely hope and pray that IE8 turns out to be all it has been cracked up to be.

I do think that the sort of person who uses FireFox is the sort of person who would upgrade, but I think that FF2 compatibility is not compulsory, but preferable - it's about balance. My site has 20 percent of its visitors on FF2, which is a lot to throw away.

I guess there is yet another browser to add to the list: Google Chrome.

I recently upgraded to FF3 and hated it. I am shocked at the (so called improvements). A recipe for failure in my book.

Change is good and upgrades are nice but after viewing FF support forums, I have decided to revert back to 2.0.0.16. I had multiple issues with FF3 and I'm not the only one. I know eventually I will have to upgrade but, if I plan to continue using Microsoft Windows, I'll eventually have to upgrade that too.

Decisions... Decisions...

Thanks FF3 for adding yet another browser to have to cross check!

Thanks Microsoft for adding yet another operating system to upgrade software on!
