Hello all,

Okay im having some issues which are irriating, as far as i know both my blog - http://xdnet.co.uk/blog and the main site http://xdnet.co.uk are charset utf-8

BUT im retriving the latest posts from the WordPress DB and plonking them on my homepage (and others) BUT any special chars are messed up, and just noticed also means it wont validate lol

What are the special chars? Maybe upgrade to UTF-16, also known as Unicode?

Honestly, I've never seen a Wordpress blog validate...

the special chars are just like ' or general punchuation, it isnt special and i dont see why it dont work because the blog is the same charset and it works :s and yet it dont work when pulled directly from database and displayed on page in the same charset :s

This has nothing to do with wordpress validating...

What does your table look like? It's possible, but unlikely, that you've got an issue with data storage in some unusual, non default collation. Or it could be code page, in the browser and or markup. But I'm guessing wildly here.

Is there a URL people can look at to help you diagnose?

Erm yes and no...

Just noticed that my latest two posts dont have special chars in the extracts so its not showing the issue...

But, pages which i pull the info through: http://xdnet.co.uk/ (the latest news... box)

and then the actual blog -> http://xdnet.co.uk/blog

as far as i can tell both have same charset set using meta etc :s

The database is the standard wordpress 2.6.x

Both pages are indeed UTF-8, but how are you getting the posts from RSS?

That is, your PHP code needs to know that the content is UTF-8. For example, some RSS-parsing libraries try to do some trickery to convert charsets and usually end up failing. It sounds as though your RSS-parser is reading your UTF-8 blog posts as ISO-8895-1.

kids these days. it were simpler in my day. you just wrote all the html yourself. i remember my first paragraph tag. i even showed it to salman rushdie.

*cough* i DO write it all myself... just use advanced tools to make it easier ie get it from database lol

anyways, seems to be fixed now, i created a special WordPress page and use file_get_contents() to get the output and dump it on the page, so now its using WP functions to get the stuff from DB...

So all working now i would guess wordpress does something to it to make it work lol
