I have noticed that some web-sites wont allow you to copy and paste there content. Does anyone know the code that is necessary to enable me to stop visitors copying and pasting content from my web-site?

ANy ideas are welcome.

Cheers

FTP into your website - select all pages - hit the delete key.

yeah, I agree with chrishirst.

If people really want to steal your content, they will. People usually disable right click etc using javascript, or in some cases they even clear your clipboard.
But once they turn javascript off, there's no problem at all. Also, you cant disable the "view source" either.

But if you want to make it harder for people to copy your content, and potentially drive some of your visitors away, you could have a look at this:

I will pay anyone 1 million dollars if they can invent a method that will prevent me from copying regular text in my browser, that I cannot get around in under 30 seconds. Good luck!

1. Disable right click and clear the clipboard
2. Use noscript tags to prevent users without javascript enabled from viewing your site
3. Load your content from a seperate file so it cannot be viewed in the source directly and then use htaccess to prevent users from getting to that file

Still not foolproof and its way more trouble than I would put myself through to protect content. Generally if you don't want people to copy something, don't publish it. However I think that it would take someone who wasn't aware of how I was protecting my content more than 30 seconds to get at it using the method above so where's my million dollars

I found a site, where I could not copy the text and it really annoyed me as I was organising a christmas party and wanted to post the details in my forum.

This is one of the pages, which I have wrapped in code tags-

Code:
http://www.christmaspartiesunlimited.co.uk/
I don't know how they have done it, but it worked lol

Welcome to the Christmas Party planning service to find information on and reserve your ideal Office Christmas Party for 2008.

The site has the largest selection and details of traditional, themed, shared and exclusive Office Christmas Parties of any size. We specialise in large party groups from 200 to 2000 guests in London and across the UK. We also cater for the smaller groups who want to join a shared party with other companies.

We recognise that the Christmas Office Party is an important event in the UK corporate entertainment calendar so we aim to make this site the one-stop shop to give you unlimited choice of Christmas party venues, locations and themes.
Took me all of 2 seconds

We are independent of any of the venues, companies or organisations running the parties so aim to present a fair choice and an unbiased view. In addition it is our policy not to inflate or knowingly increase the published price for each party.
Disabled right-click, but not Ctrl-C.

You should.

Then go to Tools and Options, Content tab, and click the Advanced button next to Enable JavaScript. Uncheck the boxes about letting web pages resize your browser, or mess with your context menu.
