Hello,

I was thinking about buying a book on python "Learning Python, Third Edition by O'Reilly". If anyone has any better books to buy or suggestions on how to "learn" python it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have much experience programming at all?

If yes then I would suggest Python in a Nutshell. You can get it really cheap off amazon used.

The book you've mentioned is really good, I've had it in one of my classes and it was helpful. But, you might also want to learn through the internet. Search google and you'll find really good and very helpful guides that would be enough to have a basic idea about python. If you have some experience in programming, then an online guide would be more than enough for you.

When you get to a point where you are comfortable with python but need some specific questions to be answered, you might want to join a python forum and you'll find it really helpful.
