I've been talking with some of my marketing buddies and they talked to me about CRM's and how their CRM grabs information from the visitor's cookie (that their site, not CRM, put there) and can understand some of the following:
How they got to the website?
How many times did they return?
What did they download?
*Basically, it tracks their entire process till conversion or leaving indefinitely.
She made it sound easy. GA is okay. ClickTail is nice. CrazyEgg is nice. But those are overall data (Click tail is more specific). I'd love some type of powerful analytics like this.
*Please note: I'd love to do this for my clients and my personal projects. But I have small clients and something cost effective would be awesome. Free if possible.
I've heard many people say 'for every dollar spent on anaytics you should spend 5-10 on how to understand it'. Which is okay but....for small clients is out of question.
So, with all that said. How can I get this type of analytics for cheap/free? How do I put a cookie in someone's browser with some info about them? How do I retrieve that data later?
Or. Am I just barking up the wrong tree?
