Hi,

I am working on a pitch for government related project and one of the requirements is that browsing on site should be absolutely private, not detectable in browser history for example. Because this is abuse related website project, potential victims need to be absolutely secure when viewing site.

I can not think of any way how to force browser to keep visit private, can this be done?

thanks all.

R.

In a word, no.

The best you could do would be to use a plug-in that can be run on separate domains (Java's Web Start technology might be good for this, and I think Flex also has a similar alternative)

Either way, there is nothing you can do to force the client (the web browser) to cover its user's tracks.

Your best bet might be a separate application not tied to the browser.

Actually, if the page content is loaded using AJAX techniques, the page(s) will not appear in the history.

The original domain used to access the AJAX driven web site will still be saved in the browser history - which may be a problem for the OP.

After that, though, you're right as there are no interior "pages" with a purely AJAX driven site.

Sure but provided the opening page is protected by user names and passwords it's about as safe from prying eyes as you can get.

Adding a no-cache pragma to the page will also prevent most browsers from keeping the page in the browser cache.

Most clients will respect a no-cache header, but the OP is trying to find a way to keep the address out of the browser's history which is a completely different beast.

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to instruct a client to do that with HTTP or HTML.

Yep I know WHAT the OP is trying to achieve, but avoiding the pages appearing in the history list would be a little pointless if the information was easily available from the browser cache.

Thank you guys for the info, I too don't think this can be done. Maybe afterwards can we remind visitor to keep private and erase the history and cookies altogether?
