When I see Computer Science grads doing web development it's usually some big cold fusion project, or some silverlight or flex or adobe air gadget or something I've never even heard of. (or python, or .net, etc) And SEO is a completely different skill set altogether.
With any freelancing it can be fun when it comes time to bill the client. Best to set up good agreements with deposits and several milestones like when goals a and b are achieved you get the next payment and if you don't think they're going to pay up, you move onto something else until they do. Sometimes messes like that can come out of the simplest miscommunications and it's often very difficult to take what the customer says and find out exactly what THEY think that means. Often two very different things.
