Hey There,

I'm currently teaching myself to develop websites and was wondering if the W3 Developer Certificates hold any weight behind it? Is this something employers actually look for? Or is it a waste of time and money? Thanks in advance for any help. I appreciate it

I doubt most employers would care whether you have the certificate or not. They'll be more concerned with whether or not you can do the work.

Having said that any kind of certificate likely looks good on a resume, especially if you have a lack of experience to talk to. It can't hurt to have the certificate, but you probably don't need it.

Agreed. Without experience or a portfolio, a certification can't hurt. Being able to produce the end result is still more important.

I'm in a really weird/tough spot as I don't have any experience because I decided to switch careers, I have no portfolio and I'm putting my educational pursuance towards this new career on hold due to my wife getting the amazing chance to study at Oxford. So I'm here (in Oxford) trying to teach myself from books and what's available on the web all without direction. So I guess I just answered my own question and should probably look into the certificates, haha.

Thanks for the input, vangogh!

Thanks Steve! I think I will pursue this certificate. It might be a very small step forward but it is still a step.
