I have volunteered to write a website for a local Brownie Pack for free.

As it will include details of meetings, venues, activities and photographs of the Brownies, it needs to have reliable secure user/password management.

Can anyone give me any feedback on free php/mysql scripts they have used?

Try to search for Authorizer. It uses PHP and store info in a plain text file. But you may write it yourself quite easy
