Hey all, first post on the site!

I have a client who would like me to build them a site similar to Ticketmaster.com except on a much smaller scale. They are a nightlife event promoting company and want to be able to use a barcode scanner device at the door to read tickets that have been printed from users email receipts.

I don't even know where to start! I work with a few freelance developers and need to know what kind of coding I am looking for and how I would go about building this system so I know what to tell my guys.

The first step is to find out what format their barcode reader uses (most likely several, UPC is common). Then you need to find a barcode generator.
