to have all my pages found with bots, do I have to post a direct link to each of my *.html pages on the index page, or will it automatically find all pages on my server?

If I do need to post a direct link to all of my *.html pages can I just use sitemap.html with all pages listed?

yes, but I'm trying to add more pages to rank higher with google.
not all the pages that I will make will need to be seen by the average user and will just clutter things up.

The don't add them!


If the pages are of no value or use to users then they will be less value and use to Google.
Adding pages for the sake of it is useless. The idea is to add VALUE!

Well... They have value just not a lot.. I feel if I put links to them on the index page I could confuse my customers with too much info.

I have a small service business and I do need to be listed near the top of search engines to compete. Do you have any advice for improving my ranking?

Most bots follows text links, and will not follow image links, if you are linking with images (such as a fancy nav bar), reproduce the links as text links in divs hidden underneath the images or just put them someplace on page where they are not visible. A div with position absolute and z-index -x will give you great flexibility in hiding them.
