Hello everyone
This is a great forum !
I have an IT team that is re-developing an ecommerce site for my online business . For development and testing purposes they were using a sub-folder such as :
www.mysite.com/developmentfolder
Now that the development is completed , instead of moving the files back to the main folder they are suggesting that we use htaccess to point to the developmentfolder .
So users going to www.mysite.com will now "see" the same as if they were in the www.mysite.com/developmentfolder but the visible url remains www.mysite.com .
They say that this will not affect existing pageranks or anything like that and that this is a very standard solution .
I am looking for a second opinion here so if anyone with experience could shed their light into this I would be appreciated . Is this normal and harmless ?
If I am not explaining myself well let me know ! Thanks a lot in advance for your comments guys
