You need to communicate more clearly, ashly, I don't understand what you're asking.

Do you want:

1. To have access from outside of localhost (ie. away from home via your IP address), but restrict to only yourself? Then HTTP Auth is for you
2. To only allow access from localhost (ie. from your computer only) and deny access to everyone else? Then the htaccess code I wrote is for you.

Moving the files outside of root would probably break his scripts, which is why I thought he didn't want to do it that way. But I really don't know...
