My script looks like this:

$dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:jaredmg_form:localhost","jared mg_jaredmg","password");
$dbh->do("insert into jaredmg_form
(firstname) values (jared)");

I get an error like this in the log:
Quote:
DBD::mysql::db do failed: Table 'jaredmg_form.jaredmg_form' doesn't exist at /home/jaredmg/public_html/cgi-bin/sqltest.cgi line 5.
I'm new to MySql, and I am really struggling. I can't seem to find a straightforward tutorial. Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you're getting a CGI error you shouldn't be looking to the PHP forum, check out the "Other Scripts" and see if anyone there can help

Okay, thank you. I thought it was appropriate because this forum dealt with mysql, which is where I think my problem mostly lies.

Nice avatar by the way!

Check you typed the table name right, and put single quotes around 'Jared'. I'll leave the thread here unless we find that it's a perl specific issue.

That was it! Thank you! You just made my night. None of the tutorials I went to were specific at all. Some left off quotes, some had double quotes, some even had brackets. I thought I'd tried everything. I guess just not the right recipe...

Again thank you very much, I've been working on this problem on and off for about a month now.

And yes, this is more of a perl issue than it is MySql. Sorry.

On that topic (and seeing how this thread will probably be moved shortly), does anybody know of a good perl tutorial that branches out from the basics? I've pretty well mastered what pageresource has to offer, but all of the tutorials I go to seem to be pretty far ahead of that still.

It works!
