I could be way wrong but I believe that ASP is just an add-on extension kind of like the frontpage extensions. MS is not the only company that supports it in there server software. I know there is a linux add-on that will interpret ASP. Good luck, hoped that helped.

Chili!ASP is the addon for linux but it costs money and won't work on windows. If you are serious about using asp then you should get a Windows 2000 Server and use IIS. It is the service in windows 2000 server that handles all the website things. Including asp. Windows 2000 was designed to handle many page views and asp is a native language for it. If you go installing other components you'll definently loose efficiency and some of the functions which asp supports. Its a pain thats it MS but that's what ya get for choosing ASP since they were the main implementers of ASP on their servers. If you want non-ms then I would suggest PHP. If you want you could just wait for Windows 2003 Server to come out. It will be out a week and is the same price as windows 2000 server. Anyways good luck, hope this was helpful.

I have personally tested Windows 2003 Server, and to say the least, I was not impressed. It was basically a scaled down Windows XP (yet still including all the bloat). It ran very inefficent [on my machine] and does not support DirectX as far as I can see. DirectX support is not really needed on a server but it may be needed for something. But anyways, no big deal.
