I have a small question. Does anyone know how to change the image in the address bar like this site does (on the first page) so that it diplays your own graphic instead?

Thanks

Im not sure what you are talking about .. BUT ... are you talking about the icon next to the website's URL?

If so ... favicon.ico in the root HTML directory ...

Well I was going to refer you to the authors's site
but since the site has disappeared I have uploaded it
to my server for you.

Name: IconEdit
File Size: 2,463 KB (2.4 MB)
http://www.trafficmultipliers.com/do...e/iconedit.zip

I am not sure how long I will leave this file here so download
it soon.

You might also find this little snippet of HTML handy, put it in the HEAD of your document and it makes it very clear which icon you should use. Not sure if this will choose other icons if you edit the code for them, maybe thats something worth trying for the future - particularly if you have several different sections of a site.

<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="http://websiteowner.info/favicon.ico">

Obiviously you should change the URL to reflect the icon you want to use for the page.

If you go to http://www.favicon.com/ , it'll give you lots of info about how to make/use your own favicons. They used to have a free online program that allowed you to convert your image into the .ico file format. But that service seems to have been temporarily disabled. You really should use a proper program to convert your image to a 16x16 ico.

Try http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_if.html . They have a free trial download. You can also go to http://wdvl.internet.com/Authoring/D...icon/icon.html for a good step-by-step tutorial.

I remember making a custom favicon for a site I used to own a couple of years ago. Making the image was easy. But I recall having a heck of a time getting it to show up in my browser. But that's only because I had the site bookmarked. Once the new favicon is uploaded to your server, a new first-time visitor will see it no problem. But if you try, assuming you have your site bookmarked, you''l have a tough time. There's a whole elaborate set of steps (including deleting cookies, temp files, etc).

Good luck.

If you have Paint Shop Pro there is a way to add the .ico file format to your list of formats you can save an image as.

I have not tried it with version 7 but I know it works with version 6 and I am pretty sure version 5.

If you are not familiar with Paint Shop Pro you can find it at http://www.jasc.com/

I have PSP (and Photoshop, and Fireworks, and...). I never knew you could convert to ico format in PSP. Will have to take a peek.

Yeah, I am still using PSP6 most often and there is a something or other that you can add that will allow you to save in the .ico format.

I don't even know if I put it on the new install when I moved to the new PC. I should check. LOL
