If i an music to a site e.g. coldplay and play the music when the website is visted, is it legal? Do i need to credit the artist?

You'd need to check that with whoever owns the copyright or whatever. With big name bands, it's more than likely going to be illegal - having it on a website would probably constitute broadcasting.
