I am looking for a good search engine to install on my site. This site exists within a subdirectory, so I can't use google's search engine. I found some alternatives here:
I don't have direct access to the server my site lives in, so I'm not sure about using cgi scripts. Would it be better to use the "Free Search Engine Script Hosting" option and not bother with cgi directly? Thanks very much!
Must it be a Perl script? I would recommend using one coded in PHP or ASP (if you're on a Windows server), as they are more efficient. In any case, you can find PHP, ASP, and Perl scripts at Hotscripts (www.hotscripts.com), which is the most comprehensive database of scripts that I know of.
