i am new to oscommerce. what aspects of oscomerce do i need to know. i want to run an online store. i know i need

SSL
oscommerce

i want to customize it how would i do that.
what merchant do i use to accept credit cards.
how much is ssl and how would i receive ssl.

I tried running OSCommerce once... Took me about 3 hours to give up, I couldn't even get it loaded, heh.

But that was before I was into the languages the cart uses, I should probably try it again sometime soon...

Otherwise, you may get better help (no offense to WT) at their support forums.

I've used oscommerce before to set up a store. I'm not a whiz or anything but it wasn't too hard. The customizations are what's hard. You can always ask the support group for help. The payment processors I used were PayPal and 2Checkout so I didn't need SSL. Overall I think it's a great shopping cart.

I would really love to convert my main site into oscommerce but I'm worried about not using html pages any more. All of my pages are indexed by search engines and I'd rather not loose those links. On the other hand it would make managing my store so much easier. I've read that the latest version of oscommerce has an option for search engine friendly urls, but it's still in development. I've decided to set up a test site and see how search engine friendly the site will be.
