CMS extension for mobiles/PDAs

I've decided to design a content management system framework to format webpage content for mobile phones and PDAs for my MSc dissertation. I'd ideally like it to be an extension to an existing open source ASP.NET CMS.

Does anyone know of a good open source ASP.NET CMS that would be suitable for this project? Also is anyone aware on any projects that have attempted to do this in ASP.NET? Or of any research done in this area?

The main hurdle I see with this project is formatting content for such a variety of small screen devices. Each device having differing screen sizes and technology for accessing web content, e.g. WAP, WAP2, I-mode, Micro Browsers. I am considering using a priority model, where parts of a webpage are given priority over other parts which is dependent on screen size. I could either program the CMS to recognise individual devices and apply appropriate priorities for that screen size (long way-also require constant updating), or take an average screen size for all small screen devices and format for that size only (short way).

Does anyone see any fundamental flaws in this solution or would like to suggest improvements or an alteranative solution? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
