I have an animation that I want to use for a part of my webpage, but after the animation runs, I want it to switch from an animation, and freeze on a still image. I'm not quite sure of the code, but is this it:

<img src="animation URL" lowsrc="still image URL">

That code will display another image if browsers are set to use the low resolution versions. I'm not quite sure of the implementation of this (does the browser load the lowsrc first then overlay the high quality one? anyone?).

To do what you are looking for you need to change the 'looping' setting in the animated gif itself. The standard setting is forever, which is used for most images, but you can set it to a number (all programs have different ways of setting this, in Fireworks it's in the 'frames' section at the bottom where there is an icon that looks like a loop). If you set it to 1, the animation will play, and then stop on the final frame, leaving this displayed.
